In August 2024, BlockStart Scotland held its first-ever Web3 Summit in Glasgow. The annual conference sought to bring together over 1,000 like-minded enthusiasts, experts, and builders from around the world. The event's carefully planned course covered various Web3 topics, including governance, enterprise, sports, music, finance, social media, gaming, fashion, community, art, privacy, and more. BlockStart Scotland's CEO, Colin Smith, decided readily in early Q1 2024 that Thrilld would be a good addition to his event. That left us with ample space for careful preparation.
A shared and streamlined networking experience
With more than 1,000 attendees from diverse backgrounds and skill sets, especially for an event so focused on Web3 tech, social interactions, fun, and innovation, the possibilities of socialization are infinite, and the opportunities enormous.
The challenge was thus clear: the organizers needed a robust, streamlined networking tool that could help attendees connect based on shared goals and interests - before, during, and after the event.
Generting that network effect despite minor QR code errors
Thrilld Labs provided the networking solutions needed by BlockStart Scotland. Thrilld, our synergy-machine for Web3, is specifically designed for Web3 professionals and events, allowing participants to start connecting before they even arrive in Glasgow. Through personalized profiles, attendees can initiate conversations and identify potential collaborators in advance, facilitating face-to-face communication later on. Truth be told: at the venue our team faced some minor technical onboarding issues with the QR codes on the event banners and flyers not working that were meant to further drive downloads of the Thrilld app.
Despite the QR code issue, Alexandra Overgaag, MC of the event and CEO of Thrilld Labs, quickly made adjustments. She took to the stage several times to remind attendees to download the Thrilld app from the App Store and Goolge Play Store, ensuring the networking continued as planned. Attendees were ultimately encouraged to use Thrilld not only for BlockStart Scotland, but also for future events and for finding business relations in the Web3 space in general. Attending visitors also received free premium features as part of a complimentary welcoming package.
Building the foundation for future success
BlockStart Scotland 2024 was a success and Thrilld Labs provides a platform that allows participants to easily connect with others, especially when there is a wealth of side events, notably the one by Solana and Bonk. Using AI-driven and personalized matchmaking capabilities, attendees could identify key opportunities based on their specific interests. Working with Thrilld Labs has greatly facilitated socializing among attendees and reduced the cost of contact.
Ultimately, the app saw an onboarding rate of 44% of total attendees, which was modest but fair given some of the technical challenges. Even with the technical challenges, the adaptability of both the Thrilld team and the event organizers ensured that participants could engage effectively. The event organizer, Colin Smith, who is also involved with Thrilld Labs, noted this about both BlockStart and Thrilld functioning as the app:
“[...] a good base was set and there’s definitely room for improvement to make 2025 even better!”
Alexandra Overgaag, CEO and Founder of Thrilld Labs reflected on the event’s success:
“From engaging panels like the legal discussion with Sara Hall and Marcus Bagnall to the side events hosted by Solana and Bonk, it was a great experience for networking and learning. BlockStart also sparked new ideas for our platform’s roadmap. We’ve already got new, exciting plans for next year [...].”
BlockStart Scotland 2024 was a great start for Scotland's thriving Web3 community and Thrilld Labs was thrilld to be part of its growth.
